Alyne Payton had all but given up on seeing any of the jewelry that her son, the late Bears great Walter, gave to her over the years.
A man and a woman posing as federal agents scammed their way into the year-old woman’s home in Jackson, Miss., in September and took watches, bracelets and necklaces that Walter Payton bought for her as his football career took off.
This week a man suspected in the robbery was arrested outside Memphis, and Alyne Payton got word that her most cherished pieces of jewelry have been found.
“Oh, it means everything,” she said Thursday from her Jackson home. “They’ve recovered some of it, two watches and a necklace that was the first necklace Walter ever gave me.”
William Thrash, 61, was arrested Wednesday and is charged with the theft of property greater than $10, in value, authorities said.
They recovered most of the jewelry.
A woman who was his alleged accomplice in the robbery remains at large.

The first words should go to Eddie, her oldest, a former star football player himself and the longtime highly successful golf coach at Jackson State.
“I had 61 years on this earth with Mama,” Eddie said. “I can tell you that every minute of time I
