    Zakir Hussain is a renowned Tabla maestro born on March 9, 1951, in Bombay (now Mumbai). His father, Ustaad Allah Rakha Khan was a well-known tabla player of his time. He learnt the art of tabla playing from his father.
    Ustad Zakir Hussain started playing tabla in concerts at the age of seven years. He did his graduation from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.Zakir completed his doctorate degree in music from the University of Washington.
    He collaborated with drummer Mickey Hart for Planet Drum in 1991 which won a Grammy Award. In later years, Hussain contributed to the soundtracks of several films. Zakir Hussain was conferred with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991. He was also a part of the team involved in composing music for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
    He is also the first Indian musician to be invited to the White House by the former US President Barack Obama in 2016 to attend the All-Star Global Concert.
