    Barbara Yung was born on May 7, 1959. She was a Hong Kong actress. She died as a result of suicide on May 14, 1985. She died at the age of twenty six.

    Early Life

    Barbara Yung was born on May 7, 1959, in Hong Kong. She was born into a civil service family. She was born as an only child. Her father died when she was only seven years old. At fifteen, she went to England to rejoin her mother. Her mother had immigrated to the United Kingdom in search of a job. She, her mother plus a family friend moved to Barkingside, Ilford near London. They later settled in Histon, Cambridge, England. Yung attended Rodaryhill School while in Hong Kong.

    Barbara Yung was born on May 7, 1959 in Hong Kong. Where she was born and who was helping with her birth is unknown. It is also unknown how her mother got through this period as a single mother working in a textile factory in a period when there was hardly any social policy. It must have been a difficult period given the appalling conditions of the refugees in Hong Kong.

    Life changed for the better when Barbara's mother moved in with a much older white man who worked for the government. Barbara called this man her stepfather. Working for the government gave the family all kinds of privileges which made life in Hong Kong very pleasant. Besides a good income they lived in a government villa with a sea view in the richest part of Hong Kong called The Peak. They had staff for the household chores  (11).

    Barbara Yung Mei-ling (Chinese: 翁美玲, 7 May 1959 – 14 May 1985) was a famous Hong Kong actress during the early 1980s. Yung died of suicide by gas inhalation at the age of 26, during the peak of her career.[1] Her most popular acting role was Huang Rong in The Legend of the Condor Heroes and was named as one of the Seven Fairies of TVB.[2]

    Yung was born in Hong Kong on 7 May 1959 to a civil service family as an only child. Her childhood was relatively uneventful until the death of her father when she was aged 7.[3][4]

    At 15, Yung left Hong Kong for England in late 1974 to join her mother who had migrated to the United Kingdom (TVB K100 Feature Interview, 1985). Yung, her mother and a family friend, whom Yung considered her "uncle", first moved to Barkingside, Ilford, nära London.
