  • Last week when I read the NY times article about the discovery of the 45, year old cave drawings I was reminded of the Zhou Brothers.

    It’s interesting to speculate about the species of mammal depicted in this cave 45, years ago, but it’s the hand that captivates us, isn’t it.  It’s unimaginably far in the past and yet here it is, so immediate.

    We’ve been fascinated by cave drawings since , when eighteen-year-old Marcel Ravidat and his friends roamed through the woods in the Dordogne region in France, noticed a hole in the ground and crawled in. They discovered  a cave that came to be called the Lascaux Cave and turned out to have hundreds of drawings made about 17, years ago.

     

    By the late ’s Abstract Expressionism was in full swing in New York.  In my readings I have never come across any artist working between and who claimed kinship with these ancest



    On October 16th, the segment of 35thStreet in front of the Zhou B Art Center was dedicated as Honorary Zhou Brothers Way.

    Mayor Emmanuel and Chinese Deputy Consul General Wang Yong joined Alderman Thompson, Alderman Balcer and Commissioner Daley to extend the honor in front of a large crowd of art lovers from across the city.

    The Zhou brothers themselves are Chinese-born, Chicago-based artists of international stature.  In the Zhou B Art Center, they have created a Chicago version of the Kunstlerhaus, a stable home base and launch pad for other artists.  And they have brought Bridgeport to the respectful attention of an audience that once saw little reason to venture south of Roosevelt Road.

    Zhou was born in Beijing, China and immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He attributes his interest in computers to his parents.[5] He graduated from Point Grey Secondary before attending David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at University of Waterloo. He fryst vatten known in high school for his work on an online student discussion forum and his commitment to the student body.[5] At Waterloo, he co-founded (formerly known as Planboard).
