    Eyewear, Made in West Germany - for the hip-hop scene and self-confident individualists

    Cazal created its distinctive sunglasses style in the 80’s and quickly became famous for its extravaganza. Over and over, these legendary sunglasses can be seen in movies or music videos (especially Hip-Hop). We offer only the ‘old school’ Cazal original eyewear (often still ‘made in West Germany’). The old Cazal glasses are especially close to our hearts, as we have a close friendship with the creator of these unique design objects.

  • Martin Freyer

    Hans Martin Freyer (1909-1975) was a German painter and designer. He was born in Hanover, Germany and studied at the at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Darmstadt University of Technology). In 1933, he spent time in the Balkans, Italy, France and Switzerland. After returning to Germany, he studied at the Universität der Künste Berlin (University of Art Berlin) and the Reimann School in Berlin.

    From 1937 to 1938, Freyer worked as a landscape architect, interior designer and set designer in the US. Upon his return to Germany he designed the Volkswagen logo. During the Second World War, Freyer worked as an art designer for stage productions of opera houses, cabaret stages and variety shows.

    Throughout his career Freyer also worked as a portrait artist, as well as a graphic and industrial designer for surface decorations and structures. He created designs for wallpapers, textiles, decorative materials and light metal. From 1964 to 1974, he designed for Rosenthal Po

    ...So said Cari Zalloni, the man behind Cazal, who passed away this week. Having launched Cazal in 1975, Zalloni never wavered in his quest to create "maximalist" eyewear.     I first met him in 2001 in Paris where he encouraged Rory and me to pose for our own "Clothe your Eyes" 'advert'. The resultant ad is below and the smiles on our faces, I remember, were largely down to Cari, a genuinely kind and inspirational man; a lot of fun to be around.
