Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital hospital is celebrating 80 years of service. This very key government hospital is the only mother-and-child hospital in South Africa.
A few years ago, Rahima Moosa Hospital made headlines for the wrong reasons but has now moved on from there, giving great service to the local and international community regarding births and kids.
Between and babies are born here per annum. As a teaching hospital, thousands of healthcare professionals have been trained in its wards over the many decades that this hospital has served our community.
Among other upgrades, the year-old hospital’s ward now boasts new triage beds, chairs and other much-needed equipment.
A report released by the Office of the Health Ombudsman pointed out that since its construction in , no substantial upgrades have been made to its infrastructure. A point the hospital’s CEO, Dr Arthur Manning

History of Women’s Struggle in South Africa
Women at the start of the 20th century
It is only over the last three or four decades that women's role in the history of South Africa has, belatedly, been given some recognition. Previously the history of women's political organization, their struggle for freedom from oppression, for community rights and, importantly, for gender equality, was largely ignored in history texts. Not only did most of these older books lean heavily towards white political development to the detriment of studies of the history and interaction of whites with other racial groups, but they also focused on the achievements of men (often on their military exploits or leadership ability) virtually leaving women out of South African history.
