    Biography:
    Ellen Kim began her dance dream with her hometown's community, starting at Future Shock San Francisco (SF) and making her way to Funkanometry SF. Through her choreography and dance experience within the dance community, she has been blessed to teach around the world for over 10 years. Her work in the industry includes artists such as YG Family, Pharrell, Diplo, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Zayn, Madison Beer, and more. Ellen has also collaborated with brands such as Adidas, creative directed the Opening Ceremony of the League of legender World Championship, and appeared in various commercials, TV shows, and movies. Ellen is the lead choreographer for the FLY GRLS, a group of award winning and talented hona dancers who perform at prestigious venues and events throughout Los Angeles.

  • “Ready? Let’s take it from the top!” a choreographer yells from atop the library steps. Below her, on U.C. Berkeley’s Sproul Plaza, a massive congregation of dancers—comprised almost entirely of Asian bodies—breaks into an intricate hip-hop routine. Running into one of these dance groups is an everyday occurrence at U.C. Berkeley. But it’s 10 p.m., the air is bitingly cold, and dancing on concrete is a recipe for shin splints, so it’s surprising that the dancers are still giving every beat their all.

    After the San-Diego-based Jabbawockeez won the first season of America’s Best Dance Crew in 2008, the Asian American presence in hip-hop dance has been impossible to ignore. You can see clips of these crews on YouTube, throwing it down at famed Los Angeles dance studios like Playground or Millennium. College hip-hop groups like U.C.     Dancer, choreographer, teacher, actress/model, (and new mommy!) Ellen Kim began her career in her hometown of San Francisco, CA. At 8 years old, she grew obsessed with copying dance moves from music videos. She later joined Future Shock San Franscisco (after trying out 4 times), then later Culture Shock, then Funkanometry SF, and eventually moved to LA when at 20 years old with best friend Shaun Evaristo. Ellen got her first international teaching job in 2008 in Norway. This jumpstarted her role as a traveling instructor – she's taught and mentored in Australia, Germany, the U.K., France, Costa Rica, South Korea, Russia, on top of LA's major studios such as Movement Lifestyle, Debbie Reynolds, and Millennium Dance Complex. Her professional resume also includes touring with recording artists like Snoop Dogg, Christina Milian, Amerie, and LL Cool J, working with high profile celebrities (Ellen Degeneres, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Pharre
